Not everyone is born with high self-confidence. Those individuals around you who seem to have limitless self-confidence probably also haven’t always been like this. Most probably they made a conscious effort to increase their confidence and self-esteem and create the life that they really want.
The good news is that everyone can make this conscious decision and increase their self-confidence.
Here are five tips how to do it:
Stay away from negativity
The time has come for you to take a closer look at your inner circle, including family and friends. It might be a bit hard but it is essential that you do it. Do your best to stay away from those people who tend to criticise you and bring you down and spend more time with those who are supportive and encouraging. It might turn out that you need to make some new friends. Though, it might be a bit painful to realise it, but it will be so much better for you to be surrounded by people who bring out the best in you.
Love and appreciate yourself
The world these days does not necessarily promote self-love. Our upbringing usually doesn’t either. But just think how much confidence and self-esteem you would gain if you spend all the energy that you spend on criticising yourself, on loving yourself.
Louise L Hay used to talk a lot about really loving yourself and the miracles it brings into your life. One of the exercises she suggested to practise self-love was looking at yourself in the mirror and telling yourself how much you love yourself.
Find time today and do this exercise. Stand in front of a mirror, look into your eyes and tell yourself how much you love and appreciate yourself. The first few times it may seem funny or it may sound like a lie. It doesn’t matter. Do it until it sounds like you really believe it. It is a simple, yet very effective way of increasing your self-worth and confidence. Try it and you will see.
Do the things that scare you
The best way to overcome your fears is to face them. When you do something that scares you every week or perhaps even every day, you will see that you can rise over your fear and do the things that used to seem so scary. Such positive experiences will boost your self-confidence in no time at all.
Feed your mind with positive thoughts
Be mindful of your thoughts. Every thought you think creates your future. Monitor your thoughts and whenever you see a negative thought change it to a positive and more empowering one. Gradually you will notice how it will become easier and easier for you to create positive thoughts than negative ones. It will have immense influence not only on your self-confidence but on your entire life.
Setting goals is another good way to increase your self-confidence. They don’t have to b big goals. It is actually good to start with small goals, like making a phone call that you were postponing for ages. Just aim for some achievements that you can tick off on your “to do” list. Accomplishing such small goals will increase your confidence and self-belief that you can achieve bigger goals too.
